Since the shorebird quiz was answered rather quickly let me offer up another bird as a challenge. Not a shorebird this time, it’s a passerine. It’s a common nester, it’s medium-sized, it’s got a great song, and it’s migrating right now.
I mentioned in a previous post the importance of understanding what a bird looks like from every angle, including underneath. While the photo at right is not fully underneath, it’s a shady, somewhat glancing view and so is a fairly representative example of what I’m talking about.
This one should be fairly easy for anyone with knowledge of local birds and perhaps a field guide at their disposal.
I’ll offer this hint: the species is usually found high up in the trees except when it comes to your feeder.

Female Red-Breasted Grosbeak?
Nice one JJohnson, it is indeed a grosbeak.
Am I making this too easy or are you folks just good?
