Despite the best efforts of most hunters there is the occasional animal that gets away after having been shot. Such is likely the case below:
One can’t be sure without an extensive postmortem I suppose but the large hole in the rib cage tells me this was the result of a gun shot. I guess a person could argue the shooter was lazy by choosing not to track the blood trail very far. Even further, it may have been a poached animal but we will never know.
Such instances can serve as feasts for the scavengers and some had already found this white-tailed doe. Nature, to be sure, does a masterful job of cleaning up our mistakes.
