Redpoll in disguise

When I saw this common redpoll in my backyard the other day it immediately brought to mind a wren. Why? Its tail was cocked up ala just about every wren species. It was something I’d never seen a redpoll do. It’s possible, I suppose, this particular bird had a problem of some sort i.e. broken bone or wrenched muscle. But it sure seemed to be confident in what it was doing. Lest you think this was a brief, one-time flick of the tail, that wasn’t the case. It held its tail like this all day. Take a look:
